It’s that time of year again when we take time out as a team to reflect on all all we have seen at Salone del Mobile, Milan Furniture Fair (9-14th April 2019), as part of our training and so we’re clued up on the latest trends and product knowledge.
What a great year at Orgatec, Europe's biggest trade show for office furniture and the place for leading office furniture brands to unveil their new designs.
I Maestri del Paesaggio is an international festival focused on landscape design hosted in Bergamo and designed this year by Piet Oudolf, an influencial Dutch garden designer. We were delighted to be invited to I Maestri del Paesaggio to join Pedrali with our own guests.
April is probably our favourite time of the year, not only does the sun start to shine but it means we get to go to Milan for Salone del Mobile – and PJ uses any excuse for a Gelato!
A visit to Stockholm never disappoints. Always a favourite with us, we look forward to seeing new designs and catching up with manufacturer friends. This year we also took with us some architect and design friends who were as impressed as we were.
This year Stua introduced additions to existing collections rather than new pieces and showed us once again that they might not have the biggest range but what they do is always to the highest of standards for design and quality.
Spectacular, unique, extraordinary… a few words that can be used to describe Moooi’s installation at Salone del Mobile in 2017 and quite possibly everyone's highlight for this year.
Within an old warehouse, Moooi transformed the space in to an environment of ‘creative luxury’ – A Life Extraordinary. Within which they displayed their unique and quirky collection.
As well as many additions to existing collections, including even more to the Lottus collection, Enea launched ‘Coming Soon 2017’ at Salone del Mobile. The 'Coming Soon 2017' catalgoue states that the new items will be available when the 2018 Price List is released later this year.
As expected, the Pedrali stand was full of new pieces for the 2017 collection. Pedrali launched 7 new product collections and 4 new models to existing ranges, here’s a few of our favourites.
With new additions to existing collections, Fsocarini had a playful display at Salone del Mobile this year with a wallpaper backdrop featuring some of Foscarini’s classic designs.
Boss Design hosted two pop up showrooms over two weeks, one in Cardiff in our recently refurbished neighbours at Cornerstone and the second in Bristol at the Engine Shed. Showcasing a range of furniture from conventional office furniture, desks and task chairs to the innovative pieces like the Workhub working pod.
One of the benefits of working closely with our manufacturing partners is that we are able to take architects, designers and customers to visit factories and cultural centres around the UK & Europe. This trip was a visit to see the stunning new Pedrali showroom and distribution centre in Bergamo and the new wood factory in Manzano, near Venice .
We love a trip to London to catch up with suppliers and see what’s new and this year is no exception with displays in Design Fields, Project, Additions, Platform and Icon House of Culture there was furniture and design aplenty, although the spread out layout was hard to navigate at first but we got there in the end. There was a big emphasis on cool and effective workspaces with a lot of natural finishes and streamline frames and shapes, as well as a lot of colour and texture.
Salone del Mobile is always a big occasion, the manufacturers pull out all the stops, introducing new designs and each stand looks impeccable.
We always look forward to our trips to London, especially during London Design Festival, we love seeing what’s new and on trend and is a great time to catch up with some manufacturers. This year we were lucky enough to make it to 100% Design and Design Junction, here’s a few of our favourites from each & we hope you agree!
The largest and longest running contemporary design event in the UK, 100% Design, this year was held at Olympia London, an exciting new venue with over 20,000m2 and 2 floors for exhibitors to display and show off their latest collections.
Clerkenwell was full of fun and new products this year, from the every extending range of contemporary showrooms, to the Farmiloe building that is the Design factory which was bursting at the seams with design and armed with coffee and ice lollies to keep us all going. The contrast between old and derelict looking building of the Farmiloe and the contemporary furniture inside works really well, it’s a shame Clerkenwell won’t hold the Design factory in the same building next year!
Paris is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world, when Maison et Objet arrives it gets better, because of all the beautiful furniture of course!
This year was no exception, beauty whichever way you turned so PJ and Gemma had plenty to talk about when they got back.
Stand out pieces include a new sofa by Munna, credenza, tables and lights from Ginger & Jagger and pretty much the whole Meridiani stand!
We managed to narrow down our favourites from this years’ Orgatec so that they could all fit into this one blog, we hope you agree!
With over 400 exhibitors, Decorex International 2014 presented an unrivaled, diverse collection of products from across the interior design world. Showing off the major fabric manufacturers and luxury interior goods, after 38 years of events, Decorex is a notable platform showcasing the well-known brands we all know and love to the new and up-and-coming. This year having moved to the beautiful location of Syon House, the interior only added to the spectacular designs on show.
This year celebrated 20 years of the biggest contemporary design event in the UK, with a record number of 28,000 visitors and around 450 exhibitors showcasing their products and services. What began in a tent in London back in 1995 is now not only the biggest but the best event drawing in designers from all over the world.
Displaying the works of the up and coming, the innovative and the trendsetters, 100% design is the design event to attend. Here at Momentum we have been looking forward to the event for weeks, and it did not disappoint, especially the lighting collections on display.
May 20th – 22nd marked the 5th year of the annual Clerkenwell Design festival. Clerkenwell is home to more creative business and architects per square mile than anywhere else on the planet. This makes it one of the most important design hubs and the perfect location for the UK’S leading independent design festival. With over 250 exhibitors the international design community flocks to this small area of London to find out what’s new in the design world and we were no different!
With representatives from Momentum present each day of the festival we were sure to see as much as possible! From the various exhibition buildings to the surrounding showrooms the streets were bustling with excited festival attendees.
April has been a busy month for anyone in the interior design industry including us here at Momentum. The first exhibition, set up in 1961 was designed to promote Italian furniture and furnishings to the export market. It has since become an international affair and an exclusive showcase for the latest designs. In 2013 it was attended by 285,000 people, of which two thirds were from overseas. This event is a ‘must attend’ for anyone in the furniture business and was completely sold out this year!
Cardiff Creative Quarter, located in Morgan Arcade, launched on the 11th of November 2013 with a big party to celebrate. Having supplied the furniture and interiors for the space we were there en-force to celebrate this great event.
We have always been big fans of the Stockholm furniture fair so a trip this year was eagerly anticipated. It is not the best known or the biggest fair by far it is a smaller show and mostly populated by the well known Scandinavian brands - not overrun by the big international players.
Our 10th birthday party was a big success, thanks to everybody who came it was wonderful to see so many friends, customers and collaborators!
