Cardiff University’s ground-breaking Trevithick Library for the School of Science and Engineering won the 2010 SCONUL award in the Small Library category. The aim for the interior was to create an identity for the library that made it an enticing and inspiring space, yet functional for all users.
"It's clear that the provision of furniture is a major aspect of the Trevithick experience. We worked closely with Momentum to get the furniture right. Some companies just try and sell to us, but Momentum cared about getting it right for us and listened." Ruth Thornton, Library Manager
The Trevithick Library underwent a dramatic refurbishment in 2008. Key elements of the new design included a research lounge, open spaces, group study rooms, wireless and a modern 'computer bar.' Working with the Welsh School of Architecrure, Momentum sourced and installed the entire furniture packaging including the lighting. Using long desks, task lights and with clever space planning and strong colours, the result is a calm and subtle space with an uplifting and creative feel, popular with students across the entire university .
