St Luke’s Hospice plays a central part in the network of palliative care, nursing and support services in Sheffield. They care for people aged 18 and over who have incurable illnesses. Accommodating 20 patients in 14 single rooms and 2 three-bedded rooms they aim to control symptoms, alleviate pain and give people the best quality of life – all free of charge. Government funding via the NHS Sheffield Clinical Commission Group covers a proportion of the income needed. The other two thirds of the funds needed to keep the Hospice running is raised by the hospice Charity.
Working with Race Cottam Architects Momentum furnished the reception, waiting areas and supplied some furniture in patient rooms. Due to the nature of the project costs were kept to a minimum whilst ensuring high levels of quality in both furniture and design. After the first installation of furniture we returned to supply the furniture for the outdoor areas. This included a large terrace where we continued the theme from the indoors to the outdoors, by using the same colour green that was used on accessories and pieces of furniture inside for a select number of outdoor chairs.
