Clerkenwell Design Week 2025

CDW - best of British, European panache and modular everything.

Each May, Clerkenwell Design Week transforms this unique corner of London into a vibrant celebration of design. Set against the historic backdrop of Clerkenwell, home to more creative businesses per square mile than anywhere else in the world, the event brings together the best of British and international design talent.

Since its launch in 2009, CDW has become a key date in the calendar for designers, architects, developers, and of course Momentum Contract Furniture. It’s a chance not only to see what’s new, but to connect, collaborate and be inspired - and this year was blessed with sunshine to charge the batteries between showrooms!

Championing British Design

This year’s British Collection, located in the beautiful setting of St James’s Church, stood out as a proud showcase of UK manufacturing. It was great to see such a strong presence from homegrown brands, from long-established names to newer studios, all focused on quality, craft and a deep understanding of how furniture can enhance the way we work and live.

Joining St James’s Church were countless other venues and showrooms, peppered across Clerkenwell, all with open doors, allowing guests unparalleled access to new products, trends and conversations.

These manufacturers continue to set the standard when it comes to thoughtful, well-made products that meet the needs of today’s evolving interior spaces; from agile offices to inviting hospitality environments and innovative educational settings.

A European Perspective

While British brands took a deserved spotlight, CDW also reminded us just how much European design shapes our sector. This year, the dedicated Spain pavilion in Charterhouse and the Italian Collection in St John’s Square were typically gorgeous; not just for their heritage and sustainability-leading products, but for the diversity and quality of the products on show.

Spanish manufacturers brought a relaxed elegance and a clear understanding of how flexible, comfortable furniture supports modern ways of working, with huge emphasis on sustainable values for a better future. Meanwhile, Italian brands delivered the kind of refined detailing and expressive materiality that they’re known for - beautifully made, timeless products that balance form and function, with Italian style.

Beyond those two key zones, there were many other European names to be found across showrooms and exhibitions, each offering something unique - whether that was innovative modularity, sustainable materials, or simply great forward-thinking design.

Momentum has, and continues to, work with many of the brands on show. If you saw something you loved during the week or are looking for inspiration on what could work in your next scheme, we’re here to help find and deliver it.

Trends and Talking Points

  • Transparency in sustainability

There’s been a clear shift from vague eco terminology to meaningful, traceable data. Brands are now proudly sharing details on material sourcing, production methods, and lifecycle impact - helping designers make informed, responsible choices. It’s encouraging to see circular design move from concept to practical application.

  • Design for change

Flexibility was a major theme, with modular, mobile, and multi-use products taking centre stage. These designs speak to the evolving needs of modern spaces, whether that’s hot-desking, hybrid working, or multi-functional hospitality zones. The focus is on furniture that adapts, scales, and lasts.

  • Tactility and tone

Texture and finish played a big role in how products engaged the senses. From richly woven fabrics to warm timber grains and soft matte surfaces, the emphasis was on materials that invite interaction. It was a reminder that design isn’t just visual - it’s something we experience physically and emotionally.
