Salone del Mobile, Milan 2025
Confident colour, curves & material fun
Milan Design Week 2025 was a celebration of confident design, where bold colours, sculptural forms and rich material combinations took centre stage. From layered palettes and curved silhouettes to the return of glass and gloss, the mood was playful yet sophisticated. Sustainability ran through everything, with brands rethinking collections to be more responsible and future-focused. The event offered inspiring insight into where the industry is heading - bringing together innovation, comfort and conscious design in ways that felt both exciting and tangible.
Years of Inspiration
Milan Design Week, launched as Salone del Mobile in 1961, has become the world’s most influential celebration of design. What began as a showcase for Italian furniture now sets the standard for innovation and style. From just over 300 exhibitors, it has evolved into a global stage for ideas, materials, and future-focused thinking.
Fuori Salone brings the energy beyond Rho Fiera into the heart of the city. Since officially launching in 1990, it has transformed Milan’s showrooms, galleries, and historic spaces. Together, they make Milan the undisputed capital of design.
Momentum has followed this journey for over 20 years, watching as new ideas take shape, timeless classics are redefined, and environmental credentials become central to the conversation. It remains a key source of insight and inspiration for our team.
Bold Colour, Curves and Material Play
This year, confidence came through in every detail. Colour palettes layered warm neutrals with soft pastels and vivid jewel tones. We saw tan, mocha, and burgundy paired with bright blue and racing green. The combinations felt bold yet beautifully balanced - mid-century in spirit but entirely of today.
Sustainability at the Forefront
Sustainability was central. Many brands are reworking entire collections to be environmentally responsible and not just about launching token pieces. From recycled plastics that retain their character to classic lines re-engineered with greener processes, the focus is on scale, not gestures.
Comfort is evolving too. Manufacturers are eliminating foam in favour of smart moulding techniques and more sustainable construction. Upholstery is moving forward, with removable, washable, and replaceable covers becoming standard. These changes reduce waste and limit the use of chemicals, while future-proofing the product.
Momentum Bringing Milan Back
The themes we saw speak directly to how we work at Momentum, and we’re excited about this. We specify and deliver furniture that blends aesthetics with performance, balancing sustainability with smart, sensible choices.
As a multi-brand dealer consultancy, we bring access to a wide and trusted supplier base, many of whom showcased at the event, all under the Momentum brand. It means clients benefit from global innovation without complexity. From large-scale commercial projects to bespoke interiors, we guide every step with expertise and creative intent.
A Future of Thoughtful Progress
What stood out most was the shared commitment to progress. Brands are pushing forward; reimagining how materials, comfort, and sustainability come together. And these aren't ideas in development. They’re being implemented now, with a better future in mind.
At Momentum, we’re proud to be part of that movement. We bring these changes into real spaces across the UK and beyond - helping to deliver furniture that does more, and means more.
